Our ecosystem explanation writing!!

Since term 1 we have been working on our healthy ecosystem, explanation writing. Our learning intention was to use the correct structure for a explanation. In our explanation we wrote about what an ecosystem needs, what is in a ecosystem and the threats to a ecosystem. A healthy ecosystem needs a producer, consumer, decomposer, inorganic matter and organic matter. Without those things the ecosystem with be unbalanced. I enjoyed writing our explanation because I think that I did well describing the roles of the producers, consumers, decomposers, inorganic and organic matter. I think I could work on finishing it earlier. Here is my piece of writing:

What is a ecosystem?

The parts
A healthy ecosystem consists of both inorganic (non living)
and organic matter (living).
These inorganic and organic are place holders
to keep a ecosystem from tumbling.
Inorganic and organic matter work together.
The balance of the ecosystem relies on inorganic and
organic matter.

Producers
There are many different parts of an ecosystem and each
one helps each other to survive and keep the ecosystem
from getting damaged.
Those things are producers, consumers and decomposers.
Producers are important to feed the consumers.
An example of a producer is kelp.
It soaks up energy from sun and rain and when
eaten the consumers get energy.

Consumers
In a ecosystem there are different types of consumers.
There are herbivores (which eat producers),
carnivores (which eat other consumers),
Omnivores (which eat a mixture of both consumers and
producers) and finally there are scavengers
(which eat leftover food from other fish).

Decomposers
Decomposers break down dead material.
An example of a decomposer is bacteria.
These decomposers are a type of burial team for fish.

An unbalanced ecosystem

Some ecosystems are strong ones and can rebalance
after a minor change in their ecosystem.
Although a small and quite fragile one is easy to tip over.
All fish depend on a healthy ecosystem.
A kina barren is when people overfish
(because fish eat kina) and then the kina population
explodes and they munch all the kelp which can be
harmful to baby fish because they have no place to hide
and develop into adults.

Cool Fidget Spinner Art!!

13/06/17
WALT:Parentheses.

Should we be allowed to have fidget spinners in our classes?

Hi there. My name is Taleisha and I think that fidget spinners should not be allowed to be in classes because they distract fellow students. (Here are my reasons)

Firstly, they are a distraction to people if they are doing work or tests. The noise annoys other kids and they can’t focus.

Secondly, they are addictive and used when we are supposed to do work and when the teacher comes and checks your work you have nothing.

Thirdly, when people say they calm people when they are stressed or angry I think (Obviously) that is just a rip off. It just gets people addicted.

Fourthly, they cost money (Boo!!!) and sometimes they can be a bit expensive. The reason why people make inventions is because of joy and MONEY!

For these reasons I think that fidget spinners should not be allowed in classes.

Last week Te Ngahere and Te Maunga got to make fidget spinner art (WALT: Use space, crayon and dye). We were also going to write a persuasive piece of writing (WALT: Use parentheses). The prompt was ‘Should we be allowed to use Fidget Spinners in our classes.’

My awesome vibrant tangelo story!!!

Tuesday 21st February 2017 Image result for images of a tangelo

The sticky tangelo.

The tangelo looks as vibrant as a mini orange ball. It has bumps here and there  and in the middle is a green spike at the tippy top.

It is as smooth as glass with little bumps in between, it is super shiny and glistens in the light. I press my fingers against it to find it is full of yummy juice.

It smells so sweet and also has a leafy smell. When I opened it, it smelt as sweet as candyfloss.

The sound of me peeling the skin sounded like a little ripping noise, ‘ Rippppppp’. You have to put it close to your ear to hear the noise.

The best bit is tasting it. As soon as you put the segment full of yummy juice into your mouth, it explodes with this sour juice, like a lemon. The taste is so sweet and you go to lick your fingers to make sure you pick up the juices left behind. Slurrp!  The juices are as sour as a lemon and they make your taste buds tickle. Yum!!!

The End.

My reflection for the tangelo.

For writing we were learning how to add in descriptive language and language features. We also used the five senses EG: felt, smelt, looked, tasted and sounds like.

Our success criteria was to add in descriptive languages and features to make our writing better.

I need to work on adding more language features like metaphors and alliteration.

My amazing summer writing

Tuesday 7th February.Image result for summer tumblr

I Remember…
Splashing in the icy cool turquoise water.
My family all playing and having fun in the ocean flocking around.
I was walking around listening to the waves speaking in a wavy language
Getting splashed by the salty water.
I wandered and stared into the sky watching the seagulls playfully swimming in the sea. I lay on the soft sand that comforted me.
I was grateful that the cooling sea came and splashed me.
That was my summer

In Te Ngahere we had to write a descriptive piece of writing. The start of a descriptive writing piece is what you were doing, then something that was happening, then something you did, why you did it and then finish with that was summer or something similar.
I think that I went well with understanding the structure and was able to know what to do. I think I need to work on adding more descriptive words in my story.
